A designer wheelchair

The combination of a fancy design and functionality is the cornerstone of the strategy promoted by Mikołów-based Cosmotech. Soon, thanks to their innovative products, people with disabilities will be able to use designer lightweight and made-to-measure wheelchairs.

‘Our intention is to change the image of a wheelchair from the symbol of mobility limitation to the synonym of unlimited opportunities. We want people with disabilities to be able to express themselves through the design and vivid colours of our products. No more heavy, clunky and hard to fold hospital-like medical equipment. We start a new era of wheelchairs,’ says Łukasz Padjasek, the company founder. ‘The combination of lightweight structures and 3D printing technology makes our wheelchairs several times lighter than similar products on the market. They are not only custom printed and designed (e.g. wheelchair seat adopted to customer needs), but technology and functionality-wise they are also the most advanced wheelchairs on the market,’ added Jakub Strycharz, the Chief Engineer.

The use of lightweight materials for the frame has reduced the weight of the wheelchair to approx. 3 kg, comparing with aluminium and steel frame wheelchairs of 6-9 kg and 10-15 kg respectively!

Cosmotech wheelchairs are now tested by people with disabilities. The product should be launched on the domestic market in a couple of months, and on European markets in 2020. In August this year, the first sports wheelchair adapted to tandem running made by Cosmotech was delivered to its user. And this is just the beginning!
